Decoro faentino: Occhio di Penna di Pavone
The vivacity of colours of the iris on the majolica.
A decoration of a far away eastern origin that allows for the association of all known colours by offering a sumptuous effect that reminds us of the beauty of the colours of the iris applied to a decoration inspired by the “eye” that covers the ends of the feathers of a peacock.
It appeared in Faenza at the end of the XV century, according to a local legend associated with a love story that flourished between the noblewoman of Faenza Cassandra Pavoni and Astorgio Manfredi of the Faenza Lordship.
